Sackboy: A Big Adventure is crossing over with the free PS5 game Astro’s Playroom. Earlier today, developer Sumo Digital announced that players can equip the free Astro Bot costume later this week.

The Astro Bot costume arrives in Sackboy: A Big Adventure as a free DLC on March 8. The studio has only shared one image of the costume so far and has yet to show how it will look in the game. However, unlike some other costumes, which are just Sackboy in a funny outfit, this looks more like a Little Big Planet version of the character. It has a larger, boxier head and a proportionally smaller body. The Astro costume’s antenna is also a lot bigger than the original. This has the side effect of making him look a lot more like the Reddit mascot than the designers probably intended.

Astro’s Playroom is a free 3D platformer that comes pre-loaded in all PS5s. It primarily serves as a tech demo for the console’s DualSence controller. It was also the last original game from Gravity Rush developer Japan Studio before its dissolution in 2021. The timing of this new crossover is interesting given the new Astro Bot game reportedly in development.

Meanwhile, Sumo Digital’s Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a 2020 spinoff of the Little Big Planet series. It follows the titular Sackboy in his quest to save Craftworld from the villainous Vex. The game features hundreds of costumes, with developers frequently more through updates. Many of these outfits are inspired by other Sony properties. Past crossovers include characters from God of War, The Last of Us, Ratchet and Clank, Horizon, and Uncharted.

The latest Sackboy: A Big Adventure DLC is titled the “Jelly Bean Paint Pack” and offers up a rainbow palette of glossy, jelly bean-inspired paints for the Sackboy. Colors included in the pack are red, blue, brown, cyan, green, orange, pink, purple, white, and yellow.

For those looking to pick up the DLC, it’s free now on the PlayStation Store. A litany of other previously released DLC is also available for the game, including free costumes that dress Sackboy up like Santa Claus, Atreus from the God of War franchise, Ellie from The Last of Us, and more.

Originally released in 2020, Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a platform game from developer Sumo Digital. The game is a spin-off from the hit LittleBigPlanet series, and follows the titular Sackboy as they go on adventures across a variety of locations.

PS Plus subscribers appear to be pleasantly surprised by Sackboy: A Big Adventure, which is part of April 2023’s PS Plus Essential free games line-up. The game flew under the radar when it launched, and didn’t quite make a mark on PC either.

Sites like Reddit and Twitter have seen a number of popular posts over the last few days praising Sackboy. Many say that they weren’t expecting much after reading reviews but found the game to be incredibly fun.

“Me and my girlfriend are absolutely loving it,” wrote Redditor SomeMorningBrown. “Holy s***, you guys were right! This game is really fun!” added user RanfoMedia. Others have expressed similar sentiments, with some stating that they’re having a blast playing with their children.

Despite lukewarm reception and sales, Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Sumo Digital continue to support Sackboy with free DLC. As we previously reported, the game has nearly 50 free DLC packs on the PS Store. And on April 7th, it received yet another costume pack to celebrate Spring.

Sony has officially revealed the PS Plus Essential games for April 2023 in an official blog post. Last month’s games for the subscription service were announced during the PlayStation State of Play, marking one of the first times that weren’t leaked beforehand. This time around, the games for April 2023 were leaked but it looks like it was only for a very short time, if at all.

PS Plus Essential April 2023 games list

All of the games listed here will be available to download on April 4 and can be claimed up to Monday, May 1. Here is a quick list of the games confirmed to arrive on PS Plus Essential in April:

• Sackboy: A Big Adventure (PS4, PS5)
• Tails of Iron (PS4, PS5)

Per usual, once you have downloaded and claimed these games to your PS Plus library, they will remain accessible so long as you maintain your PS Plus subscription.

As a reminder, the monthly games for PS Plus Essential for March 2023 can be claimed until Monday, April 3. The three games included for March are Battlefield (PS5, PS4), Minecraft Dungeons (PS4), and Code Vein (PS4).

Sackboy: A Big Adventure is coming to PC, with the former PS5 and PS4 exclusive’s Steam and Epic Games Store release date having been revealed. The date was seemingly announced ahead of schedule by the Latin America PlayStation YouTube channel, after having previously appeared on the Steam database.

When is the Sackboy: A Big Adventure PC release date?

Sackboy: A Big Adventure will make its way to PC on October 27, 2022. The announcement was made in a new trailer that was promptly delisted by the official PlayStation YouTube channel. The trailer confirmed a number of features, including 4k resolution at 120 frames per second, 21:9 ultrawide monitor support, along with Nvidia DLSS and a variable refresh rate.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure initially launched on November 12, 2022, and was a PS5 launch title. A spin-off from the LittleBigPlanet series, the game was developed by Sumo Digital, the studio that took over the LBP property from Dreams developer Media Molecule.

The platformer received positive reviews upon release, with PlayStation LifeStyle awarding it a 9.5, calling it “one of the most charming and fun” highlights of the PS5’s launch line-up.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure will be released on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, continuing a successful trend of formerly PlayStation exclusives launching on the platform, following the likes of Marvel’s Spider-Man and God of War.

Horizon Forbidden West is everywhere at the moment. The latest game crossover comes in the form of costumes in Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Starting today, February 18, players can download Aloy and Sylens costumes for Sackboy from the PlayStation Store.

The Horizon Forbidden West costumes can be downloaded for free for Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Aloy comes equipped with her bow and arrows, while Sylens just means Sackboy can be cool and mysterious at the same time. The costumes join a whole host of other free outfits that can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store including those from The Last of Us II, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart, and Returnal.

Aloy’s newly released adventure is also taking over the world one city at a time. The 10ft tall Clawstrider statue that arrived in Sydney Botanical Gardens yesterday has now appeared in several other cities across Europe. Those in London can head to Waterloo Station, although it’s recommended to wait to visit it until Storm Eugene has stopped trying destroy everything. There’s a statue at the Cour de Rome on the forecourt of Gare Saint-Lazare in Paris, and another at Plaza del Callao in Madrid. All come with the Clawstrider Treat Code that can be entered at this website.

Meanwhile, Aloy has made an appearance as a statue in Florence, a city where women of the past are especially celebrated for making a difference. Sony is also collaborating with Event Horizon School, the only school in Italy to have access to PlayStation First, to offer more than 40 free courses to design students. Sony Interactive Entertainment is guaranteeing 40 courses will be made available but between now and March 18, players must unlock trophies from Horizon Zero Dawn and/or Horizon Forbidden West to activate more courses. Those interested in benefiting from the free courses need to apply through the Event Horizon School website.

Finally, Sony recruited hundreds of drones and many projectors to light up the famous Elephant Rock at Al-Ula in Saudi Arabia with the image of a Tremortusk and a message for players. It’s probably best if you take a look at the video.

In other news, Embracer Group has confirmed they have 216 games in development right now, including more than 25 AAA games they plan to release before the end of March 2026. Elsewhere, Ubisoft has confirmed Skull & Bones will now be a game that focuses on multiplayer first.

A new entry has appeared on the Steam database, and all signs point to a rumored PC port of Sackboy: A Big Adventure coming to the digital storefront soon. While not mentioned by name, one branch of the game does mention developer Sumo Digital. The rumored game also references Sackboy: A Big Adventure‘s codename listed in the recent GeForce Now leak.

One of the more obvious indications that this is Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a branch of the application named “sumoqa.” Put simply, a branch is a version of the game in development, which devs separate from other versions in order to test bugs or implement certain changes. In this case, “sumoqa” is likely a branch of the game that the devs use for quality assurance. As the name suggests, the “sumo” prefix is almost certainly for Sumo Digital: the dev studio behind Sackboy and LittleBigPlanet 3.

Another piece of evidence is the depot—a grouping of files that are sent to the Steam user—which features the name “Marmalade Content.” If you followed the Nvidia GeForce Now leak that happened earlier last month, you’ll know that a handful of PlayStation Studios PC ports were leaked. In addition to the now-confirmed God of War PC port, the list also included Sackboy: A Big Adventure under the codename “Project Marmalade.” The project has also apparently been in development as early as six months ago.

The news comes at an exciting time for PC users, who have been drip-fed PlayStation exclusive titles over the past year or so. Sumo Digital has also been busy, with Tencent recently acquiring the UK-based studio for $1.27 billion. Sackboy: A Big Adventure originally launched for the PS4 and PS5 back in November 2020, later receiving a patch allowing cross-play between PS4 and PS5 consoles. In our official review, we highlighted how Sackboy: A Big Adventure improved upon past LittleBigPlanet titles by removing the series’ level creation mechanics and focusing strictly on great platforming gameplay.

Sony Interactive Entertainment is sending out emails to PlayStation Network users, inviting them to try video games before purchasing them. Called “Game Trials,” the scheme has been kicked off with Death Stranding: Director’s Cut and Sackboy: A Big Adventure.

I received the email sometime yesterday (note: I have a UK account), which contains a lot of fine print.

Death Stranding: Director’s Cut trial lasts six hours “from the time you click ‘Download Trial’ via console or ‘Add to Library’ via web.” This is going to be an issue if your downloads start crawling, for some reason, and/or your internet speed just plain stinks when it comes to downloads. The email makes it clear that you only get “one trial account per account per game.”

The trial period for Sackboy: A Big Adventure lasts five hours, and it’s only available on the PlayStation 5.

Trials for both games will be available until October 28th, 11:59 pm.

“Ever wanted to try some of the most-popular games from PlayStation Studios before committing to the full game?” reads the email. “Well now you can! Head over to PlayStation Store and download your chosen Game Trial. Once you hit download you’ll get a limited amount of time to play the game, whether you play or not. Once the time is up you’ll need to purchase the full-price game if you want to keep playing.”

It remains to be seen if Sony will adjust the trial time counter. It makes more sense to kick it off the first time players boot up a game.

The Last of Us Day—that is, the day commemorating when the outbreak happened in-game— isn’t until September 26, but that hasn’t stopped Naughty Dog and Sony from launching new The Last of Us gear in the PlayStation Gear Store. Naughty Dog has promised not to ignore The Last of Us Day, though, and has promised they’ll be unveiling “all-new content” on that day. Even Sackboy: A Big Adventure is getting in on the fun with new The Last of Us Part II costumes due to launch soon.

One thing we do know is Sackboy: A Big Adventure will be getting Ellie and Abby costumes on September 26 too.

The costumes are modelled on the Seattle portions of The Last of Us II, although Abby comes equipped with a hammer rather than a golf club. Their cost isn’t known, but if previous crossover costumes are anything to go by, they’ll likely be free.
