Sackboy: A Big Adventure is crossing over with the free PS5 game Astro’s Playroom. Earlier today, developer Sumo Digital announced that players can equip the free Astro Bot costume later this week.

The Astro Bot costume arrives in Sackboy: A Big Adventure as a free DLC on March 8. The studio has only shared one image of the costume so far and has yet to show how it will look in the game. However, unlike some other costumes, which are just Sackboy in a funny outfit, this looks more like a Little Big Planet version of the character. It has a larger, boxier head and a proportionally smaller body. The Astro costume’s antenna is also a lot bigger than the original. This has the side effect of making him look a lot more like the Reddit mascot than the designers probably intended.

Astro’s Playroom is a free 3D platformer that comes pre-loaded in all PS5s. It primarily serves as a tech demo for the console’s DualSence controller. It was also the last original game from Gravity Rush developer Japan Studio before its dissolution in 2021. The timing of this new crossover is interesting given the new Astro Bot game reportedly in development.

Meanwhile, Sumo Digital’s Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a 2020 spinoff of the Little Big Planet series. It follows the titular Sackboy in his quest to save Craftworld from the villainous Vex. The game features hundreds of costumes, with developers frequently more through updates. Many of these outfits are inspired by other Sony properties. Past crossovers include characters from God of War, The Last of Us, Ratchet and Clank, Horizon, and Uncharted.

Gun Media got burnt by the fiasco surrounding the license for Friday the 13th when it was involved in the 2017 game adaptation. But it has ensured the same issues will not be happening with its upcoming The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game.

PCGamesN spoke to Gun’s creative director Ronnie Hobbs recently and he assured them that the situation is very different for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

”The situation surrounding Friday the 13th was inherently more complicated than it is with Texas,” notes Hobbs. This is the biggest point, as the rights for Friday the 13th suddenly became embroiled in a tug of war between the original director Sean Cunningham and writer Victor Miller. That prevented the game from adding any new content, and ultimately saw it shut down its servers in 2020 as no resolution was in sight.

The Saw Is Family

So what’s the difference now? Hobbs lays it out, “With Texas, we are dealing directly with Kim Henkel, the sole owner of the IP. We’ve been working closely with him during the entire process not only from a creative standpoint, but also a legal one. We have been as diligent as possible during this entire experience to ensure things go smoothly.”

The relationship Gun has struck up with Henkel comes from a place of mutual respect, and was a deciding factor in what license Gun would tackle next.

“After the success of Friday the 13th, we had a lot of potential suitors contacting us about turning their IP into games. We spent quite a while sorting through and weighing our options before finally being introduced to Kim Henkel. Once we discovered that both sides had an immense interest in creating a game, we quickly knew Texas was going to be our next project.”

Early playtests of the game have proved promising. The shift in dynamic for asymmetrical multiplayer sees 3 members of the family against 4 survivors. Set up as a prequel to the 1974 movie of the same name, it features the same deranged family and locations, but with a fresh set of potential victims.

The trailer in question showed up at the IGN x ID@Xbox Digital Showcase. It gave another brief overview of its three-on-four nature, but focused more on the killers and their brutal executions. The grisly murders were even highlighted by community representative Andy Cleves, as some had previously stated that The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’s kills weren’t sadistic enough.

A lot of the game’s trailers and screenshots have taken place during the day at the family’s house, but this latest one’s nighttime setting gives it a bit of a darker tone. And while it is launching on Game Pass on August 18, PlayStation players can still score a discount since it is a $39.99 game that’s also 10% off until it comes out.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre won’t be $60 (or $70 for that matter)

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre price reveal comes as the game has gone live on digital storefronts. PS4, PS5, and Steam users even get an added discount, as it will be $35.99 until it launches on August 18. Xbox owners are not getting left out, as the asymmetric multiplayer game is launching on Game Pass.

Pre-orders for the physical version are live only at a few storefronts. The physical version also comes with a poster of the game’s box art, but supplies are limited.

Gun Media CEO Wes Keltner poked fun at the lower cost by pointing out how there’s no one set price for games and cheekily noting that players could just Venmo him the difference if they wanted.

Modern multiplayer games that aren’t free-to-play don’t often hit $59.99 (or $69.99 now). One of Gun’s last games, Friday the 13th: The Game, also launched at $39.99. Illfonic, which also worked on Friday the 13th, stuck to same price point for its following asymmetric multiplayer games based on film franchises from the 1980s, Predator: Hunting Grounds and Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed.

Unannounced football/soccer game LEGO 2K Goal (stylized as Goooal!) has been leaked by the Korean rating board. The listing, which went live today, does not mention any platforms.

Lego 2K Goal listing corroborates previous leak

Lego 2K Goal’s listing, which was first spotted by Gematsu, corroborates a February 2022 report by VGC in which the outlet claimed that 2K obtained the Lego license for several sports games. The games are reportedly being developed by Take-Two Interactive’s Visual Concepts in collaboration with UK’s Sumo Digital.

According to VGC’s report, 2K’s Lego sports games include a racing game (since released as Lego 2K Drive) and a soccer/football game, which the rating board has now confirmed as 2K Goal. Interestingly, VGC’s sources said that 2K Goal was meant to coincide with last year’s FIFA world cup, and would have been followed by 2K Drive, but it looks like an internal delay led to the racing game releasing before 2K Goal.

VGC claims that there’s a third Lego 2K sports game in development, based on “a major sports franchise,” but wasn’t told what franchise that is.

While 2K and Sumo Digital did not comment on the report, Lego said at the time that it does not address “speculations” about future partnerships.

Players are often curious if multiplayer games will feature cross-platform play, as that has been quite standard of the last few years. Gun Media has confirmed that the asymmetric online game The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will be one of those games that does indeed support cross-play when it comes out on August 18.

Gun explained this in a post on the game’s website. Cross-play is widely supported, but there are a few key caveats that mean it’s not one big pool with every system. As noted by the above graphic, current-gen systems and PC will be able to play with each other.

However, PS4 and Xbox One owners will be sequestered into their own separate pools; these last-gen systems don’t even interact with each other. Gun did not offer reasons as to why cross-play was set up like this and why the PS4 and Xbox One players can’t even join up together or why consoles in the family can’t link up.

Regardless, cross-play can also be disabled. Players also can’t see a player’s friend list from another platform, but game-generated invite codes can made so players can invite users from other platforms. Those on the same platform can still use the platform-specific invite systems to send invites, though.

And while cross-platform play is a feature, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre does not support cross-platform progression. Gun also didn’t offer an explanation.

The latest Sackboy: A Big Adventure DLC is titled the “Jelly Bean Paint Pack” and offers up a rainbow palette of glossy, jelly bean-inspired paints for the Sackboy. Colors included in the pack are red, blue, brown, cyan, green, orange, pink, purple, white, and yellow.

For those looking to pick up the DLC, it’s free now on the PlayStation Store. A litany of other previously released DLC is also available for the game, including free costumes that dress Sackboy up like Santa Claus, Atreus from the God of War franchise, Ellie from The Last of Us, and more.

Originally released in 2020, Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a platform game from developer Sumo Digital. The game is a spin-off from the hit LittleBigPlanet series, and follows the titular Sackboy as they go on adventures across a variety of locations.

PS Plus subscribers appear to be pleasantly surprised by Sackboy: A Big Adventure, which is part of April 2023’s PS Plus Essential free games line-up. The game flew under the radar when it launched, and didn’t quite make a mark on PC either.

Sites like Reddit and Twitter have seen a number of popular posts over the last few days praising Sackboy. Many say that they weren’t expecting much after reading reviews but found the game to be incredibly fun.

“Me and my girlfriend are absolutely loving it,” wrote Redditor SomeMorningBrown. “Holy s***, you guys were right! This game is really fun!” added user RanfoMedia. Others have expressed similar sentiments, with some stating that they’re having a blast playing with their children.

Despite lukewarm reception and sales, Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Sumo Digital continue to support Sackboy with free DLC. As we previously reported, the game has nearly 50 free DLC packs on the PS Store. And on April 7th, it received yet another costume pack to celebrate Spring.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure is coming to PC, with the former PS5 and PS4 exclusive’s Steam and Epic Games Store release date having been revealed. The date was seemingly announced ahead of schedule by the Latin America PlayStation YouTube channel, after having previously appeared on the Steam database.

When is the Sackboy: A Big Adventure PC release date?

Sackboy: A Big Adventure will make its way to PC on October 27, 2022. The announcement was made in a new trailer that was promptly delisted by the official PlayStation YouTube channel. The trailer confirmed a number of features, including 4k resolution at 120 frames per second, 21:9 ultrawide monitor support, along with Nvidia DLSS and a variable refresh rate.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure initially launched on November 12, 2022, and was a PS5 launch title. A spin-off from the LittleBigPlanet series, the game was developed by Sumo Digital, the studio that took over the LBP property from Dreams developer Media Molecule.

The platformer received positive reviews upon release, with PlayStation LifeStyle awarding it a 9.5, calling it “one of the most charming and fun” highlights of the PS5’s launch line-up.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure will be released on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, continuing a successful trend of formerly PlayStation exclusives launching on the platform, following the likes of Marvel’s Spider-Man and God of War.
