Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Update to Fix Performance Mode Graphics

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi has heard player complaints about the game’s graphics in Performance Mode, and has promised an update to resolve them. Shortly after release, players took issue with the marked visual downgrade when using Performance Mode — a patch for which should be out soon.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth update will fix facial lighting

Speaking to One More Game, Hamaguchi said that he can’t detail the incoming patch just yet, but did say that Square Enix plans to address facial lighting as part of it.

“We’ve received a lot of feedback on whether the graphics in the performance mode will be improved or not,” Hamaguchi said. “We hear you, and we are currently working on an update patch to improve that aspect. I don’t think the release date would be far away from now.”

The facial lighting issue that Hamaguchi is referring to are complaints of character shadows looking “scary” under some conditions. When asked what his personal preference is between Graphics and Performance modes, Hamaguchi chose the former. “I like to play other games in graphics mode as well because I like to see better graphics,” he explained.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Release Date Window Hinted at by Dev

Square Enix‘s Naoki Hamaguchi has dropped a hint about the release date window for Final Fantasy 7 remake’s part 3. The third installment, which has yet to be titled, might be out by early 2028 as it seems to be following the same trajectory as FF7: Rebirth.

Square Enix has made progress on Final Fantasy 7 remake part 3’s script

In an interview with YouTuber Julien Chieze (via GamesRadar), Hamaguchi was quizzed about FF7 remake part 3, to which he said that he’s unable to divulge too much but can say that the development team has made progress on the script.

“Of course, I cannot tell you what stage we are at, but we have already made progress on the script and we are thinking about certain developments,” Hamaguchi said around the 41-minute mark in the video below. “When we got to the end of the development for Remake, we started talking about a sequel with [writer Kazushige Nojima] and I think we can say that we are in the same situation today.”

FF7 Remake and Rebirth release dates are about four years apart, so Hamaguchi’s statement suggests that we’re looking at an early 2028 release window, if not sooner.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Demo Out Now, Will Get More Content Soon

Square Enix has dropped Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo on the PS5, playing which will reward players with special in-game items. The demo features the Nibelheim episode from the game’s opening chapter. Players who complete the episode and save their progress can skip this section when Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth releases.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo details

The demo will be updated prior to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s launch on February 29. The update — which is expected to go live on February 21 — will add the Junon area episode that will give players an opportunity to check out the world map and experience exploration.

Do note that Junon area progress will not carry over to the full game because it’s specifically condensed for the demo to give players a taste of the content. However, in order for the Nibelheim episode progress to be saved and carried over, the Junon area update must be applied to the demo.

Finally, here are the rewards players can claim in-game when Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launches:

Kupo charm: An accessory that increases the number of resource items extracted at a set rate.
Survival set: A selection of items to aid on your adventure, such as potions and ethers.

PSA: February PlayStation State of Play Date Set for Next Week

During last night’s PlayStation State of Play, Sony beat leakers to the punch and announced the next event itself. Seemingly having heard criticisms of how it conducted the last few State of Play showcases, Sony decided to follow up yesterday’s event with a separate State of Play for PS5 console exclusive Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth.

Sony says next week’s event will offer an extended look at Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, but didn’t say how long the show will run. Fans should tune in on Tuesday, February 6, at 3:30 p.m. PT / 6:30 p.m. ET / 11:30 p.m. GMT if they wanna learn more about the game.

This should save us all those persistent State of Play rumors and speculations, right? Not quite!

Earlier today, a ResetEra insider with a good track record set gaming forums abuzz yet again when they said that Sony also has a showcase planned for May to fill the void left behind by E3. It’s currently unclear if this will be a smaller State of Play type event or a major showcase. However, given Sony’s recent track record, we’re all fairly confident that a summer event of some sort will happen.

Square Enix has dropped a ton of new Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth gameplay information alongside a new trailer. The game will release on February 29, 2024 for the PS5 and is billed as a “truly epic adventure.”

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth gameplay introduces new combat features

The new cinematic trailer based on FF7 Rebirth’s premise can be seen below:

FF7 Rebirth’s combat party will include Yuffie and Cait Sith. Yuffie’s basic attacks are all about striking enemies quickly with a throwing star, which also comes with a “magic-infused ‘ninjutsu’ to punish foes.” “Her Doppelgänger ability allows her to attack in tandem with her clone, enabling her to exploit enemies’ weaknesses even more effectively,” Square Enix explains. Yuffie’s unique abilities revolve around her throwing star, which makes it possible for her to attack from a distance and use ninjutsu spells against her enemies’ various weak elements.

Cait Sith’s combat is all about agility. According to Square Enix, he “darts about the battlefield with the agility of an acrobat (or perhaps a cat?), assailing enemies from every side.” Cait Sith comes with a moogle that he can use to his advantage during combat. His unique abilities include dropkicking enemies while riding his moogle and buffing companions.

Sephiroth Will Have a Bigger Presence in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s World Map

The next part of the epic Final Fantasy 7 remake is coming in 2024 with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and it is set to bring at least one big change from the original.

One-Winged Angel takes flight in Rebirth

Sephiroth had a much larger presence in the 2020’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake than he did in the same portion of the original game, and with Rebirth set to cover the middle section of the game, the promise of more Sephiroth than before has been made by producer Yoshinori Kitase.

Speaking to Game Informer, Kitase talks about the game’s world map and how it will contain a greater presence from Sephiroth as the group pursues him across the map.

“Remake covers your encounter with Sephiroth, and now within Rebirth, we wanted to make Sephiroth this very clear antagonist and target for the characters to go and pursue through their journey in Rebirth,” said Kitase. “Within the original game, Sephiroth was not seen very much in the world map, but in this title, we put this element forward.”

There will be plenty of character development for one of gaming’s most notorious antagonists and Kitase explained “We felt it was necessary to have this very clear depiction of how he came to be the person that he is now in Rebirth.”

Sephiroth will feature as a playable character during a flashback sequence in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be released on PS5 on February 29, 2024.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Install Size Revealed and It’s Yet Another Massive Game

Square Enix has revealed Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth‘s install size, and if you don’t have extended storage, you might wanna wrap up some games by February. FF7 Rebirth weighs a whopping 150 GB, and like its predecessor FF7 Remake, it comes on two discs.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth size explained

Director Naoki Hamaguchi told Game Informer that FF7 Rebirth’s 150 GB will be split between two discs in such a way that players won’t have to swap discs like they did while playing FF7 Remake. One disc will hold 100 GB of data, while the other will hold just 50 GB of data.

Thanks to the PS5’s architecture, players will simply have to install the game using both discs, following which they will only need to pop one of the discs into the drive to play.

Hamaguchi says that FF7 Rebirth’s size is the result of its development team’s ambitious vision for the game. Apparently, Square Enix always wanted Rebirth to be heavily detailed and more immersive than Remake. This meant having to put the game on two discs because cramming everything into a single Blu-ray would have forced the development team to cut down some of the content.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Length Revealed, Is Longer Than Original Game

Square Enix has revealed the estimated length of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and it’s going to consume quite a bit of players’ time. The game’s release date was announced during yesterday’s PlayStation State of Play, following which Square Enix elaborated a bit more on what players can expect from the upcoming title.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s estimated length is “nearly 100 hours”

FFVII Rebirth is bigger than the previous entry (FFVII Remake) in every way, including its main storyline. Rebirth also gives players the ability to explore more freely and complete “compelling” side stories, engage in minigames, and fight powerful foes spread across the map.

As a result, players are looking at investing “nearly 100 hours” into Rebirth. The actual number will vary according to play style, of course, so a completionist (or Platinum trophy) run could very well be a couple of hundred hours.

Square Enix also took the opportunity to remind players that FFVII Rebirth is a stand-alone game, so knowledge of the previous entry is not necessary. However, those who haven’t played FFVII Remake and want to play both games should check out the PS Store’s offer of a “twin pack” for $69.99, with Remake playable immediately upon pre-ordering it. A day ahead of Rebirth’s launch on February 29, 2024, the twin pack’s price will go up to $99.99.

The Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth release date window hasn’t changed much

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is coming out in early 2024 on PlayStation 5. And in keeping with Final Fantasy tradition, the physical version will be on two discs. Early 2024 is in line with what Square Enix initially said, as it was revealed for “next winter” as of June 2022. The company also noted that Rebirth is “developed specifically to leverage the power of the PS5 console.”

The trailer features a wide variety of characters, like Cloud, Tifa, Red XIII, Barret, Sephiroth, Yuffie, and Aerith. It’s relatively substantial vertical slice, as it contains a fair bit combat, some exploration in its big world, and some cutscenes.

Producer Yoshinori Kitase spoke more about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on the game’s website and teased that more was coming later in 2023.

“The party will embark on a new adventure, so players can enjoy this story even without any familiarity with the previous title or the original Final Fantasy 7,” said Kitase. “The vast and explorable world along with the newly evolved speedy battles are sure to provide a most exciting gaming experience to new adventurers. We would, of course, like to invite returning players and longtime fans to watch our new trailer closely for glimpses of pivotal story moments that Cloud and his friends will confront.

Square Enix has issued yet another update on the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The company has revealed fans won’t need to play Final Fantasy 7 Remake in order to understand Rebirth.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Won’t be Required to Play Rebirth

On Twitter, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth co-director Motomu Toriyama answered a question asking if players need to have played Final Fantasy 7 Remake to enjoy Rebirth. According to Toriyama, the answer is no.

The director revealed the developers have “made preparations” to ensure anyone can enjoy the game.

What exactly those preparations are remain unclear as of now. However, fans have already speculated it to mean a short recap video for those who need it.
