GreedFall 2: The Dying World early access trailer

Publisher Nacon and developer Spiders shared a new trailer for the upcoming action RPG GreedFall 2: The Dying World. The game is on its way to PC, PlayStation, and Xbox Consoles, and Steam users will be able to play in early access.

GreedFall 2 gets a new story trailer

GreedFall 2 will launch for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC later this year. While the publisher’s yet to reveal a more precise release window, Steam users can play in early access this summer. While Spiders has not shared any gameplay, the new trailer offers story teasers and an intimidating new boss monster.

The GreedFall 2 trailer opens with an attack on a native settlement on Teer Fradee, the North America-inspired island players explored in the first game. The attackers appear to be members of the Coin Guard, a large and powerful mercenary company. The invaders take GreedFall 2’s protagonist and the rest of her village back to the continent of Gacane, presumably for slave labor. However, the hero escapes with a combination of magic and physical prowess. Viewers next see her leading a party of three companions to a battlefield, where they encounter a massive, golem-like monster.

The first game saw players departing from the continental city of Sérène to the newly established colonies on Teer Fradee. However, the new game flips the script, letting players explore Gacane from the perspective of a Teer Fradee native. Confirmed locations include the Bridge Alliance city of Olima, which is presumably the city glimpsed in the trailer. Despite the number, GreedFall 2 is a prequel set 3 years before the original game.

Teyon has released an update for RoboCop: Rogue City, which adds the highly requested New Game Plus mode to the game. The update was released on PC yesterday, with the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S getting it today.

RoboCop: Rogue City update details and patch notes (January 23, 2024)

Complete patch notes and details are as follows:

  • Added a New Game Plus mode
    • Re-live the journey with all of your previously unlocked skills and Auto-9 upgrades, for the full “invincible robotic law enforcement officer” experience.
    • To unlock the mode, just finish the game after the update is applied — this can be done by reloading a save made just before completing the game. Once done, a new save file will be created, and loading it will grant you access to NG+!
  • Added a new difficulty: “There Will be Trouble”
  • Added a new unlockable Golden Auto-9 skin, available once NG+ is available
  • Added more Auto-9 Chips and Boards
  • Fixed the shooting mode not properly resetting when exiting interiors
  • Fixed RoboCop’s right hand disappearing when grabbing a human enemy while unaliving them
  • Fixed the Stolen Vehicle investigation being skipped if Ben immediately opened the locker

RoboCop: Rogue City released in November 2023, and went on to exceed publisher Nacon‘s expectations.

Gollum Publisher Reportedly Used ChatGPT to Apologize for Busted Game

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum publisher Nacon reportedly used AI chat bot ChatGPT to pen an apology for the game’s woeful state. The allegation was made by former Daedalic Entertainment staff members in an interview with German YouTube channel GameTwo.

Gollum is one of 2023’s worst-reviewed games

LOTR: Gollum launched in a nearly unplayable state with wonky graphics. The game quickly became meme fodder after being universally panned by critics and users alike. Gollum currently holds a Metacritic score of 34/100 on the PS5, making it one of 2023’s worst-reviewed games.

Shortly afterward, the game’s official Twitter account published a mea culpa, profusely apologizing for Gollum and promising fixes and improvements. Fast forward to October, when former Daedalic staff members told GameTwo (via Twitter user Knoebelbroet and VGC) that the apology was actually written by ChatGPT and posted by publisher Nacon without the development team’s knowledge.

Nacon is no stranger to being accused of a variety of misdeeds — like the time it allegedly stole a game from Frogwares.

Former Daedalic staffers also claim that they had accomplished and experienced developers on the team but weren’t given enough funds to make a proper AAA game.

RoboCop: Rogue City Delayed, New Gameplay Trailer Out Now

RoboCop is going to clean up the streets of Old Detroit a little later than expected. RoboCop: Rogue City has been delayed out of its September window. However, Teyon has also released a new gameplay trailer in addition to its new release date.

The RoboCop: Rogue City release date is still in 2023

According to a press release, RoboCop: Rogue City is coming out on November 2 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This information strangely isn’t widely publicized on the game’s various channels, as its Twitter page and listings on the PlayStation Store, Steam, and traditional retailers still say September.

The date also isn’t even in the new trailer, which also has a description that still says September. We reached out to Nacon, which confirmed that the November 2 date is indeed correct.

Regardless, the trailer cuts through various small snippets of the story, while also showing some extra gameplay.

IGN posted a longer 16-minute gameplay sequence that has the titular cop blasting various criminals. It’s not the first extended look at the game, but is still one of the longer demonstrations of what it looks like from moment to moment.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown release date delayed

The Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown release date has been delayed again. Now, the game will no longer release in 2023; the news was revealed during today’s TDU Connect showcase.

But there is good news. A closed beta is coming soon, and will let players get their hands on the game this year — albeit for a limited time.

The new Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown release date

Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown is now set to be released in early 2024 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. This isn’t the first time the game has been delayed after it was originally due to be released in September 2022. At the same time as the first delay, the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game were also canceled.

The delay doesn’t come as much of a surprise bearing in mind that developer Kylotonn is currently on strike due to a dispute over funding from parent company Nacon. In a press release first published on Le Syndicat des Travailleurs et Travailleuses du Jeu Vidéo, other aspects of the dispute include a work-from-home policy, minimum wage negotiations, and allegations of a “pathogenic and authoritarian management style that threatens workers’ mental health and cohesion.”

For now, game development is seemingly halted while the strike takes place. Despite this, TDU: Solar Crown will be getting a closed beta that begins on July 24. The beta will last for three days. Players who are interested in taking part will eventually be able to sign up on the official website, although registration hasn’t opened up yet.

The 30-minute showcase also demonstrated plenty of gameplay. There was a focus on the game’s social elements which include integrated voice chat, co-op missions and races, the Solar Hotel social hub, and customizable avatars. There was also plenty of footage of the 1:1 scale recreation of Hong Kong Island.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Dev Cancels Next LOTR Game, Steps Away From Development

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is one of the most high-profile misses in the gaming industry in 2023, as the widely panned action game has garnered an average score of 37. This made it quite surprising when news came out that that team was developing yet another game with that license. However, that’s no longer the case since it’s been canceled.

Daedalic Entertainment is stepping away from game development

According to GamesWirtschaft (and the translation from Twitter user Knoebelbroet), Daedalic Entertainment is closing its development studio in Hamburg, Germany and focusing on publishing instead. Daedalic mostly publishes games anyway, as evidenced by its Steam page that’s full of games it has only published. Around 25 of its employees are being laid off, too.

And as part of this restructuring, work on its next The Lord of the Rings game has stopped. This project wasn’t officially announced, but a game with the codename It’s Magic was found on the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany website. The page noted that Daedalic received over €2 million — almost $2.2 million — and that period of the funding would run from June 1, 2022 to August 31, 2024. There wasn’t much about the game itself, other than it would be “full of mythical creatures and spells” and have the perspective of a character that has “never been told before.” It was also aimed at “avid fans of the fantasy story and 3D action-adventure genres.”

This is just another part of the Lord of the Rings: Gollum saga, which has been full of negativity. It was originally announced in March 2019 and slated to come out in 2021 before being quickly pushed to 2022 just after the new year began. Nacon settled on a release date back in May 2022 before announcing a delay shortly after in July noting that it had to push the game “by a few months.” It was also heavily criticized for its visuals upon its full reveal. Many then took issue with the Sindarin voiceover DLC that was locked to the special edition.

And, of course, the issues didn’t stop upon release, as critical reception was overwhelmingly negative. Daedalic even apologized for the game’s quality and promised that patches were incoming.

RoboCop: Rogue City Preview: More Than Shooting Criminals in the Groin

RoboCop hasn’t had the most striking presence in the gaming space. He was most recently in Mortal Kombat 11 as a DLC fighter, but he hasn’t been in a full traditional video game since the 2003 multiplatform shooter developed by Titus Interactive, the studio behind the infamous Superman game on the Nintendo 64. Teyon is coming in two decades later with RoboCop: Rogue City, a promising attempt that’s simultaneously trying to redeem the franchise in the video game medium and provide a more thorough look at the character.

RoboCop: Rogue City Preview: More Than Shooting Criminals in the Groin

Shooting is one part of RoboCop’s noticeable skills, and that’s clearly the easiest part to translate to a video game. Gunplay is somewhat standard, as RoboCop can shoot thugs with his Auto 9 or pick up another weapon lying around. Environments are wonderfully interactive, though, since various chunks of the level and bits of debris will break apart or explode dramatically when shot at. This window dressing adds to the chaos and makes the firefights more lively, while also conveying the over-the-top nature from the films.

Rogue City does buck a few trends, and that’s how it stands out. Whereas most shooters have gotten faster and almost mandated the use of grappling hooks, RoboCop is a tank that methodically stomps around the battlefield. It’s a little jarring at first since it’s so outside of what most other shooters do and while the gunplay is loud and violent — goons get dismembered rather easily — it remains to be seen if this accurate portrayal will hold the game back. This also applies to tossing around spiky-haired punks as if they were stuffed animals, as it is thrilling to see a giant blood splat on the wall, but getting in close enough to clutch these criminals isn’t always the easiest or fastest thing to do.

But Teyon has given RoboCop some upgrades through his multifaceted skill tree. It touches on many different aspects and even grants him a dash that adds some much-needed mobility. Finding that sweet spot of being true to the lore and fantasy of RoboCop while also making a mechanically solid shooter was a challenge for Teyon according to game director Piotr Latocha. He explained how the studio thought it was “really important” to make players feel like they were an “indestructible tank” while still having “dynamic, fast-moving action.”

“We added a lot of things that RoboCop actually does, like grabbing enemies and throwing them at each other, picking up and throwing heavy things, breaching walls, and such,” said Latocha. “So you are a bit slower, but you can do other cool things that a heavy tank can do. But also once you upgrade your character, we added some things that were not in the films, like the dash, so we had some opportunities to get that more than dynamic movement.”

RoboCop: Rogue City Preview: More Than Shooting Criminals in the Groin

It would be pretty typical if a Rogue City was just about blasting dirtbags, but it is much more than that. RoboCop is also, unsurprisingly, a cop, and that’s represented in the gameplay, as well. The police station is lovingly realized and full of all sorts of hallways to explore, conversations to overhear, and tiny tasks to help out with. Players can also roam around the hub-like area that’s comparable in size to the hubs in Eidos-Montréal’s Deus Ex games. These open areas are filled with opportunities to solve petty crimes, issue tickets, and generally patrol the grimy, dimly lit streets.

Since RoboCop isn’t a standard real-world cop where a small infraction can be a death sentence, these brief quests and activities delve into the game’s RPG side. Players can pick certain dialogue options in order to reach a conclusion and look for clues (which can also influence the dialogue), both of which are different yet engaging ways to interact with RoboCop’s dirty world that don’t involve shooting. Each action either serves the public trust or upholds the law and this push and pull will open up different endings that “play out kind of like the Fallout games,” according to Latocha. It’s an interesting angle to add to a RoboCop game, and these segments change up the pacing while also staying true to the character, so hopefully these decisions stay important throughout the whole campaign. Latocha spoke about how the studio wanted to add this because it is great to give players choices, and this variety is what he’s most proud of.

“There’s a lot of different things to do,” said Latocha. “And I am most proud of how the game is much more than just shooting. We have some crimes to solve, different small side quests, some random encounters, and dialogue options. It was pretty important to us to have something more than just shooting.

“We wanted players to feel like they stepped into the shoes of RoboCop and just be in the city that was represented in the movies. If you see RoboCop, it wasn’t only about shooting. This was important. It was very brutal, of course, and I think we’ve covered a lot of that, but we wanted to have some more types of things to do and also a lot of humor, as well.”

RoboCop: Rogue City Preview: More Than Shooting Criminals in the Groin

RoboCop’s satirical bent is seemingly still here alongside the stunning violence through the silly commercials that play on the radio and the goofy nature of some of the NPCs. There are some appropriately funny moments in the first few hours, which is an encouraging sign since humor, as Latocha stated, is a crucial part of RoboCop. He said that the team, as is often the case when developers make these types of licensed games, watched the movies over and over again to get the mood right. It’s a high bar, and one some RoboCop media has failed at, but Rogue City appears like it is on the right track.

RoboCop: Rogue City has some rough spots, which has been the case with other Teyon games. Some of the animation is a little rudimentary and its shooting might not be the most polished in the genre, but, judging by the first few hours, it looks and feels like a RoboCop game should, and Teyon has a few more months to possibly clean up these small issues. Peter Weller’s iconic likeness and authoritative voice are only one part of the equation since there are other details that give this game more authenticity. The grim lighting, clashing tones, excessively dirty streets, and more all seem like decent adaptations of the source material. If it manages to faithfully obey these prime directives, it’ll be good for both RoboCop and story-based first-person shooters, as both have seen better times.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Dev Reportedly Making Another LOTR Game

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was almost universally panned, but that’s apparently not stopping developer Daedalic Entertainment. The studio is reportedly developing another The Lord of the Rings game, which is said to be codenamed It’s Magic.

What is It’s Magic?

As noted by IGN, this listing can be found on the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany website. The roughly translated description says that it will transport players to a world “full of mythical creatures and spells” and see the perspective of a character that has “never been told before.” It’s also aimed at “avid fans of the fantasy story and 3D action-adventure genres.”

The page also notes that Daedalic received just over €2 million, which is almost $2.2 million. The duration of the funding runs from June 1, 2022 to August 31, 2024.

Daedalic has not officially announced its next project, but it did just apologize over the poor reception of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. Critics have eviscerated the title over its gameplay, performance, story, and presentation, something that has earned it an average score of 40 on OpenCritic. Given its reception, some may be skeptical that the studio can deliver a quality experience with that license.

This also might be the secret fifth The Lord of the Rings game that Embracer Group recently spoke of. The other four were accounted for — The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, Free Range Games’ crafting game The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, the free-to-play collectible mobile RPG Heroes of Middle-earth, and Wētā Workshop’s mystery game — so this could possibly be that final title that’s scheduled to release sometime in the next two years.

We now know the Gollum game length as a producer on The Lord of the Rings: Gollum discussed how long a playthrough will take. Developed by Daedalic Entertainment, the Nacon-published game will release on PlayStation 4 and 5 (and also PC and Xbox) later this month on May 25, with a Switch port to follow later in the year.

How long is the Gollum video game?

A single playthrough of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will take around 20 hours according to producer Harald Riegler. This game length estimate is for a “relaxed playthrough,” though, and is said to be for players that are looking to explore its environments. That means it will likely be shorter for those that don’t take their time and are just looking to see it to the end.

“A relaxed playthrough of the game with exploration of the beautifully crafted environments and listening to dialogues will take around 20 hours,” Riegler told GamingBolt of the Gollum game length. “Avid adventure players will be able to finish the game faster, but we advise everyone to take their time and breathe the air of Middle-earth.”

Our sister site ComingSoon recently went hands-on with the Gollum game and didn’t come away impressed.

“Even in a limited demo, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum‘s simple stealth and traversal gameplay systems weren’t promising,” said the preview. “But they might not have to hold up the entire experience if the intriguing premise is able to come through and provide a look into this mostly unexplored part of the fiction.
