Publisher Nacon and developer Spiders shared a new trailer for the upcoming action RPG GreedFall 2: The Dying World. The game is on its way to PC, PlayStation, and Xbox Consoles, and Steam users will be able to play in early access.

GreedFall 2 will launch for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC later this year. While the publisher’s yet to reveal a more precise release window, Steam users can play in early access this summer. While Spiders has not shared any gameplay, the new trailer offers story teasers and an intimidating new boss monster.

The GreedFall 2 trailer opens with an attack on a native settlement on Teer Fradee, the North America-inspired island players explored in the first game. The attackers appear to be members of the Coin Guard, a large and powerful mercenary company. The invaders take GreedFall 2’s protagonist and the rest of her village back to the continent of Gacane, presumably for slave labor. However, the hero escapes with a combination of magic and physical prowess. Viewers next see her leading a party of three companions to a battlefield, where they encounter a massive, golem-like monster.

The first game saw players departing from the continental city of Sérène to the newly established colonies on Teer Fradee. However, the new game flips the script, letting players explore Gacane from the perspective of a Teer Fradee native. Confirmed locations include the Bridge Alliance city of Olima, which is presumably the city glimpsed in the trailer. Despite the number, GreedFall 2 is a prequel set 3 years before the original game.

GreedFall 2: The Dying World has been announced by developer Spiders. Despite the game’s name, the RPG’s story is set before the events of GreedFall and features a new protagonist and new tactical combat gameplay. The game will be arriving for consoles and PC but don’t expect to see it anytime soon as its release window is 2024.

What we know about GreedFall 2

GreedFall 2: The Dying World is set three years before the events of GreedFall. This time players will not assume the role of De Sardet, this time playing as a native of Teer Fradee. Colonists capture you and take you to the continent of Gacane, a world already ravaged by war and the Malichor plague. Your aim is to gain your freedom by making friends and choosing between diplomacy, cunning, or combat. At the same time, another man’s ambitions of conquest must be ended if Teer Fradee and its continent are to maintain their independence. The RPG will focus on story and player choice but combat has been altered to take on a more tactical touch.

Spiders’ Founder and Director Jehanne Rousseau explained why the team was heading back into the world of GreedFall:

While we were working on Steelrising, our love of the GreedFall universe never faded, and so we are thrilled to be returning to it. In this new chapter, players will explore the old continent with its bigger and more diverse environments. They will meet new companions and new factions, and I hope they will have unforgettable adventures.

GreedFall 2 will be released on unspecified consoles and PC in 2024.

In other news, Sony has forged a deal with Ubisoft for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, suggesting PS5 players may be getting exclusive content. Elsewhere, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown has been canceled for PS4 and the PS5 version has been delayed.

GreedFall: Gold Edition is releasing alongside the new De Vespe Conspiracy expansion pack for PS5 on June 30, 2021. The next-gen updated version of the game will feature enhanced visuals in native 4K, as well as faster loading times and improved performance. The Gold Edition will include the new expansion pack for free, and owners of the base game will also be able to upgrade to the next-gen version for free.

The next-gen PS5 update was previously teased after the game reached over one million copies sold worldwide. Inspired by Baroque art from the 17th century, the game takes players to a mystical land known as Teer Fradee. Various people inhabit the land, such as the native Yecht Fradí, various foreign settlers, and other supernatural beings. The game also boasts some incredibly detailed lore and world-building, including an entire fictional constructed language.

The Gold Edition will provide all of the best experiences of the base game with enhanced graphics and performance utilizing the PS5’s new hardware, as well as the new De Vespe Conspiracy expansion for free. Some notable performance improvements include a 60 fps performance mode that features UHD native 4K resolution, enhanced graphics, and faster loading.

The expansion will bring players to a previously undiscovered region of Teer Fradee and battle strange new beasts. In it, players will “navigate a web of lies, manipulation, and secrets” that will ultimately uncover a conspiracy that “threatens the balance of power”. It will also add a totally new faction as well as new upgrades for players’ gear.

Previously, GreedFall was available for free on PS Plus as part of its January 2021 offering. GreedFall (PS4): GreedFall is an RPG developed by Spiders and published by Focus Home Interactive. It takes clear influences from games like The Elder Scrolls and Dragon Age, while having a unique flair all its own. Maneater (PS5): The worlds first Shark RPG (ShaRkPG) has you take on the role of a baby Mako Shark, devouring  food, growing, and working your way up the food chain. It’s told as a mock nature documentary, and lets you become the shark with excellent swimming mechanics and a visceral brutality to the shark’s snapping jaws. Unlock a variety of upgrades and mutations to customize your shark and the way you play, and enjoy a few human snacks on the beach before literally sinking boats filled with hunters. If you already own the PS4 version, the PS5 version is a free upgrade anyway outside of the PS Plus Instant Games Collection. Spiders’ 2019 hit GreedFall will make its way to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. As of writing, the studio has yet to confirm when the next-gen version will arrive. It’s also unclear whether current owners of the RPG can expect to gain access to a free next-gen upgrade. In addition to developing new bells and whistles, Spiders plans to launch the eventual upgrade alongside fresh content. What said content entails remains publicly unknown for now.

The studio shared this news in the following Twitter post, noting that community feedback informed the upcoming changes.

Spiders’ tweet further reiterates sales-related information that was shared in August. Since its launch in September 2019, GreedFall has moved more than one million units worldwide. Such sales success also proved a boon for publisher Focus Home Interactive. The publisher’s 2019 profits especially benefited from the releases of the Spiders-developed RPG, A Plague Tale: Innocence, and World War Z.

Updating GreedFall for the new hardware is not all Spiders has up its sleeve, either. The team is additionally hard at work on another action-RPG, Steelrising. Nacon will publish the new adventure, which takes place in an alternate history version of the French Revolution. Players are to assume the role of Aegis, a female robot and bodyguard to Marie Antoinette. The premise centers around Aegis’ being tasked with stopping a mad King Louis XVI from wreaking havoc with unstable automatons. Steelrising presently lacks a release date.

GreedFall is out on the PS4, PC, and Xbox One. PlayStation Now subscribers can enjoy the title now, since it joined the service in August.

It’s previously been established that GreedFall was nothing short of a commercial success for Focus Home Interactive. Now the publisher is detailing just how successful. Since its launch nearly one year ago, the action-RPG from Spiders has moved more than one million units worldwide.

As Spiders founder Rousseau Jehanne noted in a separate post, this represents quite the feat for such small studio. Hopefully, such success serves as a stepping stone for the team’s receiving further exposure. In recent years, Spiders has been behind many a solid RPG experience that’s flown under the radar. PlayStation fans looking to give them a go are in luck. The studio’s 2016 title The Technomancer is available on PlayStation Now. And just yesterday, GreedFall joined the streaming service, as well.

Presently, the crew at Spiders is hard at work on another project, Steelrising. The RPG’s premise revolves around an alternate telling of the French Revolution, wherein players assume the role of Maria Antoinette’s robot bodyguard, Aegis. Better yet, Aegis will be tasked with taking on an army of robots, all of whom are under the control of King Louis Louis XVI. Apparently, the King assembled his mechanical forces in an early attempt to stifle the revolution’s progress.

GreedFall is out now for the PS4, PC, and Xbox One.

As previously promised, GreedFall developer Spiders unveiled its new project during today’s Nacon Connect stream. Yes, the studio is hard at work on another action-RPG. This time, the team will take players to an alternate history version of the French Revolution in Paris with Steelrising. As if the name isn’t cool enough, Steelrising stars Aegis, a female automaton who serves as a bodyguard to Marie Antoinette.

According to Jehanne Rousseau, Spiders Co-Founder and President, the Queen tasks Aegis with finding her creator to stop massacres that King Louis XVI’s robot army is carrying out. Steelrising will feature a Louis XVI gone mad, attempting to stifle the rise of the French Revolution in its early days by letting loose “out-of-control” robots.

This version of Paris will feature well-known landmarks, while other popular monuments no longer exist. For instance, Spiders recreated the Grand Châtelet and the Tour du Temple.

In terms of gameplay, Rousseau said Steelrising will offer more action-focused gameplay compared to previous Spiders titles. Verticality is also being taken into consideration. Thus, players won’t only explore Parisian streets on a ground level. When moving from fight to fight, players will make use of other movement options. Climbing balconies to unlock new paths to secret locations serves as one example.

Because she’s a robot, Aegis will come equipped with several weapons integrated into her form. While exploring, players will find items to make her more powerful, better at mobility, and exceptionally durable. Players can anticipate over seven types of weapon families, with more that can be found while progressing through the story. Each family of weapons boasts its own unique qualities. Plus, weapons vary from those on Aegis’ arms for light combat to alchemical rifles for long-range attacks to heavier weapons.

Rousseau also teased sidequests in Steelrising. Apparently, Spiders is putting a lot of effort into crafting side missions that further enrich the world. Better still, unique gear and items will tie into such quests.

Steelrising is currently in development for next-gen consoles and PC. Release date details remain under wraps.

Nacon, the publisher previously known as BigBen Interactive, is hosting its Nacon Connect digital event later today. Fans of the company’s many properties and studios have plenty to look forward to. Of course, the likes of Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood and Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong will receive much of the love. However, Nacon also has a few surprises in store, namely four unannounced games.

The publisher teased as much in a recent Twitter post on its official account. In an image featuring an overview of Nacon Connect’s schedule, there are four boxes titled “New Unannounced Game.” See the post in question below:

All four of the games are rather mysterious. However, at least one of them is known about in some capacity. One of the four will come from Spiders, the development team behind the likes of last year’s GreedFall and 2016’s The Technomancer.

Nacon teased the latest from Spiders in a tweet late last week, complete with a cryptic piece of imagery. As of now, there exists no concrete details about what the studio is working on, but its pedigree suggests another action-RPG could be on the horizon. We’ll know for sure in just a few hours, though.

Nacon Connect will go live today at 10:00am PST via the publisher’s official YouTube channel.

French publisher Focus Home Interactive has had a busy and successful 2019, with the release of multiple major games like World War Z, GreedFall and A Plague Tale: Innocence. Each of those titles were commercial successes for the publisher, driving the company to generate over $88.4 million in revenue within the first six months of its 2019/2020 fiscal year. This is an 80% increase when compared to the same time frame last year.

Chairman of the Management Board of Focus Home Interactive Jurgen Goeldner had this to say about the company’s success:

After the successful launch of World War Z and A Plague Tale in the first quarter, the Group’s positive momentum continued in the second quarter, mainly driven by the successful release of GreedFall. This record performance demonstrates both our ability to leverage the know-how and talent of our teams with that of our partner studios and to maximise the monetization of opportunities. We will continue to work hard with the commitment of pursuing our growth journey.

COO of Focus Home Interactive John Bert also expressed his content for the company’s performance, but noted that 2019 was very “front-end loaded.” He said:

Focus Home Interactive’s growth further accelerated in the second quarter compared to a record first quarter. We anticipated that 2019/20 would be a front-end loaded year and we are very satisfied with our performance during the first half of the year. Even if we do not expect such an exceptional growth rate in the second half of the year, these good results demonstrate our ability to change scale, hence the confirmation of our 2021/2022 revenue targets.

Today, developer Spiders launched its first major patch for GreedFall on PC. The update, known as Patch 1.03, will set sail for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One “soon,” said the developer on Twitter. With it, players should expect to see changes to subtitles, localization issues, and a few quality of life troubles.

In the Twitter post about Patch 1.03, Spiders provided a link to the patch notes on Steam. As such, it’s likely that not everything listed in them will be reflected in the update’s console version. Still, many of the fixes are expected to exist across all platforms.

Feature:

• The size of subtitles can now be changed.
• Camera bobbing rectified: players will have more control over the camera.
• Invert X-Axis option added.

Quest fixes

• Several quests have been fixed, among them…
• The quest « The Prince’s Secret », unlocks as intended.
• Trials of Water can now be continued as intended (this issue was based on “The Prince’s Secret” not unlocking properly).
• Vasco’s first personal quest now works properly.
• The Seeds will unlock the sanctuary during the main quest.
• The black box can now be properly opened after following Ruben.

Localization

• The Chinese, Portuguese, Polish, and Russian localizations have been improved thanks to players’ feedback.
• Both French and English localizations have received several corrections.

Gameplay:

• The mage skill “Ranged Shadow Impact” has been modified.
• Some aggro areas have been improved.

Engine

• Keyboard binding issue is now debugged: most key bindings should be working properly from now on.
• The trophy ‘Curiosity Cabinet” is now fixed.
• Some crashes have been dealt with.

SFX

• A musical fade-out was added in an important death cutscene.

Cutscenes:

• The camera has been moved to offer a better view of the scene during some quest dialogues.

Published by Focus Home Interactive, GreedFall launched in September to middling reviews. Aimed at action-RPG fans who miss experiences like those of BioWare’s past, the game seemed to have somewhat delivered on providing a solid RPG adventure. Yet, technological issues kept GreedFall from reaching its true potential. What it lacked in technical prowess, it made up for on some level with quest design and a unique world setting.

GreedFall from Spiders is available now on the PlayStation 4, PC via Steam, and Xbox One platforms.
