Star Wars KOTOR Remake Development

Development on the troubled Star Wars: KOTOR Remake looks set to continue soon after reports claimed that developer Saber Interactive will split from Embracer Group. The developer will become a privately owned company and plans to continue the game’s development once the deal is complete.

Saber Interactive may get help from other studios on Star Wars: KOTOR Remake

Saber Interactive is set to be sold to a group of private investors in a deal worth up to $500 million according to sources who spoke to Bloomberg. This figure would also allow Saber Interactive to take multiple Embracer subsidiaries alongside them to help with the development of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake.

While part of Embracer Group, several other companies have already been merged into Saber Interactive; these include Demiurge Studios and New World Interactive. However, the sources did not specify which companies could be leaving Embracer alongside Saber.

The deal will be part of cost-cutting measures at Embracer Group following a failed $2 billion investment from a gaming group associated with Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund. This triggered a spate of layoffs and game cancelations.

Star Wars: KOTOR Remake was rumored to be one of those canceled games. Originally in development at Aspyr Media, development seemed steady until a vertical slice demo of the game was shown to Lucasfilm and Sony. Initial reports suggested both companies were happy with the game’s progress, but then Aspyr’s design director and art director were fired shortly after.

The game was delayed indefinitely before development was transferred to Saber Interactive, who had been assisting Aspyr Media with the remake. Rumors suggested development had ceased completely, although Embracer has always refused to confirm whether these rumors were true. The split from Embracer means Star Wars: KOTOR Remake development finally gets a chance to be completed.

Tomb Raider remastered trophies don't include Platinum on PS5

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered trophies have found their way online, and it looks like the coveted Platinums are missing on the PS5. As previousy confirmed, the collection will release on February 14 with over 200 trophies. But for some reason, only the PS4 version will reward players with Platinum trophies.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered PS5 trophies may have been impacted by Sony’s changes

Folks over at Insider Gaming got their hands on Tomb Raider Remastered’s trophy lists, and were the first to report that they’re missing all three Platinums on the PS5. A discussion subsequently ensued on ResetEra, where one user claims that the curious case of PS5’s missing Platinums — which we also saw in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III — are due to changes that Sony has made to the PS5’s trophy system.

Apparently, unless individual games in a collection have their own individual launchers, they cannot have separate trophy lists. “You can see this with Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves – because it’s all one launcher, Lost Legacy trophies had to be added in as a DLC pack and only Uncharted 4 had a Platinum,” user madbuk explained.

Although madbuk’s explanation makes sense, we’ll take it with a grain of salt because Sony hasn’t officially commented on the matter. Here’s hoping a fix is inbound.

Star Wars: KOTOR Remake Dead

Development on Star Wars: KOTOR Remake has seemingly ground to a halt at all of Embracer Group’s studios. This likely spells cancellation, according to the latest reports.

The rumors are fueled by Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors’ refusal to talk about the game during the company’s latest financial earnings investor call.

Star Wars: KOTOR Remake is “not being worked on right now”

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is “not being worked on in any way at any studio” according to renowned industry insider Jeff Grubb on the latest Game Mess Mornings podcast. During the latest Embracer Group investor call, as transcribed by Seeking Alpha, the publishing group’s CEO refused to clarify the game’s status, simply saying “I noticed that anything I say to this becomes a headline, so that is my only comment.”

The game was delayed indefinitely in 2022. Developer Aspyr Media previously created a vertical slice demo of the game to show to Lucasfilm and Sony. While initial reports suggest both companies were happy with the game’s progress, Aspyr’s design director and art director were fired shortly after.

Star Wars: KOTOR Remake was then passed on to Saber Interactive, the developer that assisted Aspyr Media with the remake. According to Grubb, development was then transferred again to another unnamed Embracer studio before being halted completely.

Since then, Sony has been removing all traces of the PS5 exclusive from the internet, including Twitter and Youtube, although the official reason for this is expired licensing rights on the trailer’s music.

The remake wasn’t the only project to be canceled at Aspyr Media. Development was also halted on the Restored Content DLC for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II on Nintendo Switch. In a recent court case filing, as spotted by Axios, Aspyr said it “believed it would be able to release the content, but a third party objected and Aspyr was unable to do so”. The identity of the third party is unclear.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) Remake PS5

Update: Sony has told IGN that it was delisted because it “[delists] assets with licensed music when the licenses expire.”

It looks like the PS5 exclusive Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) Remake is in trouble. Fans have noticed that Sony has been busy scrubbing any mention of the game and its trailers from its social media accounts, including Twitter and YouTube.

What’s going on with PS5’s KOTOR Remake?

Announced as a timed PS5 console exclusive in 2021, KOTOR Remake was originally in development at Aspyr Media in collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment and LucasFilm. Its troubles started as early as May 2022 when parent company Embracer Group announced that Saber Interactive had joined the project. Shortly afterward, the game was delayed as Aspyr fired two of its directors.

Rumors then emerged that Embracer had moved KOTOR Remake to a different studio, and reports followed that the game was entirely being developed at Saber Interactive. Since then, there’s been no word on the project or its development progress.

It’s unclear when Sony started removing the game from its social media channels, but given Embracer Group’s recent financial troubles and widespread layoffs and restructuring, things aren’t looking good for the KOTOR Remake. There’s no indication that the game has been canceled, but it doesn’t look like it’ll see the light of day anytime soon.

Saber Interactive has announced that Evil Dead: The Game will not be receiving any new DLC going forward.

Will there be more Evil Dead: The Game DLC or a Switch version of the game?

Saber Interactive took to the official Evil Dead: The Game Twitter account to reveal that no further content will be developed for the game and that a Nintendo Switch version of the game will not be released. Though the servers will be kept up “for the foreseeable future” and “major issues” will be addressed, Saber will not be pursuing the development of any new content.

Check out the tweet itself below:

You can also read the statement below:

Evil Dead: The Game was first released in May of 2022 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Saber Interactive’s zombie squad shooter World War Z: Aftermath heads to Rome for its Holy Terror update, but we’ve been blessed with more than a visit there.

The Holy Terror update’s tentpole is undoubtedly a new Rome map for the Horde XL mode where PS5 players can experience frightening levels of zombie swarms coming at them compared to the already unnerving mass in regular Horde mode. You’ll pray for a few Holy Hand Grenades for this one!

The update features a lot of other additions including 9 new perks for classes, 12 new mutators for Challenge Horde mode, 2 new weapons, premium weapon skins, and trinkets! You can find a more detailed list of changes and additions in the accompanying patch notes.

For the Horde (Mode)

In terms of technical changes for PS5 players, there have been fixes for crashing in Horde XL mode and new haptic feedback effects for the DualSense controller.

The Holy Terror is just the latest in a very long line of them for the shooter based on the film adaptation of Max Brooks’ novel. The base game for PS4 was fun if shallow, but these days it’s packed with upgrades and additions including a PS5 upgrade more maps, modes, and a first-person option.

John Carpenter's Toxic Commando trailer

A John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando trailer was shown at Summer Game Fest, previewing Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive‘s 1980s horror-inspired co-op first-person shooter.

Set to release in 2024 on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through the Epic Games Store, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando has players tag team with up to four players to battle “massive hordes of mutated monstrosities”

“It’s exciting to be collaborating on a new video game with Focus and Saber,” said John Carpenter in a statement. “Look, I really like shooting zombies. They keep telling me that they’re called ’the infected.’ Please. They’re ghouls, dude. They blow up real good and there are a ton of them. People are going to love this game.”

What is John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando about?

“In the near future, an experimental attempt to harness the power of the Earth’s core ends in a terrifying disaster: the release of the Sludge God,” reads the game’s official synopsis. “This eldritch abomination begins terraforming the area, turning soil to scum and the living to undead monsters. Luckily, the genius behind the experiment has a plan to make things right. All he needs is a team of competent, highly trained mercenaries to get the job done. … Unfortunately, they were all too expensive. Which is why he’s hired … The Toxic Commandos.”

Knights of the Old Republic Remake Development Update Given by Embracer Group

The status of the planned Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake has been unknown for some time now. Thankfully, the game is still in the works according to the Embracer Group.

What’s the latest on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake?

During the company’s year-end report (published earlier this month), Embracer Group had a section that detailed all planned games released or in development as of May 24, 2023.

The list of games includes the likes of Embracer’s planned Tomb Raider game, Remnant 2, Ride 5, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II, and the Knights of the Republic remake. According to the report (via Insider Gaming), the game is set to release on PC and PlayStation 5. Development is being led by an “internal” studio at Embracer, although no further details are known.

The history of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is a turbulent one. The game was initially revealed in 2021 when developer Aspyr showed off a brief teaser and revealed it was working on the game.

Since then, reports from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier in 2022 noted Aspyr would no longer work on the game and that Saber Interactive — another subsidiary of the Embracer Group — would take up development. It’s unclear what, exactly, caused Aspyr Media to put the game on pause, but the game does seem to still be on track for a release at some point in the future.
