Remedy Thinks PlayStation Players Will Like Alan Wake Because They Tend to Enjoy Narrative-Focused Games

Remedy Entertainment has said that it hopes to gain new Alan Wake fans when the remaster releases on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 among other platforms. In fact, the studio has its hopes up because PlayStation players “have a tendency to like narrative-focused games,” according to Communications Director, Thomas Puha.

Puha made the aforementioned comment during an extensive interview with Games Industry, in which he reflected upon the original game’s development, release, and reception. Although well-received, Alan Wake wasn’t exactly a sales hit until its PC release, but did manage to garner a cult following that has been asking for a sequel since as far back as 2010.

“The PlayStation audience hasn’t experienced Alan Wake, and PlayStation fans have a tendency to like narrative-focused games, which is what we do,” Puha said. “That’s not to say that there isn’t plenty of fans on the Xbox side who haven’t experienced Alan Wake, who also like single-player games.”

Puha went on to say that the idea of single-player games being “dead” is, well, dead itself.

“In the last couple of years, single-players games have… I wouldn’t say they’ve come back, because they’ve never been gone, but that discussion around single-player games dying… I think we can now forget that,” Puha concluded. “People love single-player games, and Alan Wake is a pretty unique narrative experience, for sure.”

In early September, journalist and industry insider Jeff Grubb claimed to have heard that Remedy is testing the waters with Alan Wake Remastered. The upcoming title is reportedly a step towards a full sequel.
